Recently, RE/MAX Malta announced that they will be sponsoring the annual Siggiewi Basketball School Open day event to be held on the 1st of June 2013 in aid of Puttinu Cares.
The Siggiewi Basketball Club has been in operation for 37 years and has over 100 young basketball players between the ages of 3 and 16 enrolled in the School.
The annual event, in its second year, is being organized by Mr Peter Mr Farrugia and Karl Borg, the President and the Head coach of the School respectively, together with the other members of the club . The main objectives of the event are to provide a fun day for the children that participate in the school and to collect funds for Puttinu cares, a charity that is close to the heart of the school.
The Open day will commence at 8am where the children and parents will be washing cars. This will be followed by a basketball shooting competition for girls and boys in the under 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 year old age groups. As part of the festivity a veteran team made up of ex-Siggiewi Basketball players will play a basketball game against the current Senior Squad of the Siggiewi Basketball club. There will also be a mini basketball festival for the under 10 boys and girls and to end the Open day there will be a past night.
Kevin Buttigieg, CEO of RE/MAX Malta commented about the event by saying “We attended the event last year and we were quite surprised with the pristine organization of the event. Besides my love for sport, the event is being organized in aid of a special charitable organization. It is our corporate social responsibility to give back to the community and by sponsoring this event we are doing just that”
Amongst the visitors expected to be present at the event will be, Parliamentary Secretary for Research, Innovation, Youth and Sport, The Hon. Stefan Bountempo and the Malta Basketball Association President Paul Sultana.
